Noosaville is a Translink bus at 50 cents, or a car. The canoe slipway is on Elanda Point Road, about 30 minutes north of Noosa. Check the hire price with the operator that day.

Stops in order

The text version of the route: stops, time at each and the legs between them. Times are estimates, without queues, traffic or swims.

  1. 1. Gympie Terrace~40 min at the stop

Noosaville's riverfront: about 2 km of shady grass along the Noosa River, with cafés and restaurants overlooking the water on Gympie Terrace. A good breakfast stop before heading north to the lake.

Tip: Do not pick up the canoe here. The everglades launch is at Elanda Point.

  2. 2. Elanda Point canoe launch~3 h at the stop

The slipway on Elanda Point Road, the canoe start for the Noosa Everglades: tea-coloured water, Lake Cootharaba and the river toward Kinaba and Harry's Hut. The car park the hire companies use is the QPWS car park, and an ordinary car can reach it.

Worth knowing: Lake Cootharaba is about 10 by 5 km but averages only around 1.5 m deep. In 1869 a sawmill opened at Elanda Point and a whole company town grew up around it; the site is now heritage-listed.

Tip: Hire the canoe at the slipway and ask the price that day. A separate park entry fee is not published for this launch.

Before you go

  • Route times are estimates: walking, driving and a sensible pause at each stop. Add queues, traffic and swims yourself.
  • Prices, timetables and trail status change. Check the venue's official site and the state transport app before you go.
  • On beaches, swim only between the red and yellow flags. Use sun protection even when it is cloudy.
