Stops in order
The text version of the route: stops, time at each and the legs between them. Times are estimates, without queues, traffic or swims.
1. Geeveston~30 min at the stop
The last proper town before the forest. Breakfast, water and the turn onto Arve Road are here.
Tip: Hobart is about an hour back on the Huon Highway. Follow the Tahune signs from here, not a short gravel cut suggested by a navigator.

2. Tahune Airwalk~1 h 30 min at the stop
A 600 m steel walkway through the canopy where the Huon and Picton rivers meet, ending in a cantilever platform 50 metres above the riverbank.
Worth knowing: The Airwalk opened on 1 July 2001.
Tip: An adult is A$35 and a child from 5 to 16 is A$17.50. Open 10:00 to 16:00. The climb is 106 steps. Hot food is at the cafe on site, 10:30 to 14:30.

3. Hastings Caves~2 h at the stop
A 28-degree thermal pool in the forest, and a cave tour every hour. The highway back to Hobart is the same road.
Worth knowing: Newdegate is the largest dolomite tourist cave in Australia. Timber fellers uncovered its entrance in 1916–17, and tours began in 1919.
Tip: Pool A$8, no booking. Newdegate Cave tour A$32, about 45 minutes, tickets first come first served at the visitor centre. Lunch was at the Tahune café. Cockle Creek is about another hour south and needs a parks pass.

Before you go
- Route times are estimates: walking, driving and a sensible pause at each stop. Add queues, traffic and swims yourself.
- Prices, timetables and trail status change. Check the venue's official site and the state transport app before you go.
- On beaches, swim only between the red and yellow flags. Use sun protection even when it is cloudy.
