Stops in order
The text version of the route: stops, time at each and the legs between them. Times are estimates, without queues, traffic or swims.
1. Edinburgh Gardens~40 min at the stop
The main park of Fitzroy North. Lawns, the old circus ground and the people who live on the next streets.
Worth knowing: The gardens honour Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, after the 1868 attempt on his life in Sydney. The rotunda went up in 1925 as a war memorial, and the oval was Fitzroy Football Club's home from 1883.
Tip: Bring food before you go in. The park is for lying on the grass, not for finding lunch.

2. Fitzroy Swimming Pool~40 min at the stop
The outdoor pool the neighbourhood uses in summer. The lawn matters as much as the lap lane.
Worth knowing: The heritage-listed AQUA PROFONDA (Danger Deep Water) sign over the deep end became famous through Helen Garner's 1977 novel Monkey Grip, whose characters spend hot summer days here.
Tip: Check the season on the council page. If the gate is shut, the park at the entrance is still the walk.

3. Rose Street~30 min at the stop
Warehouses and small studios in the back of Fitzroy. The street life here is quieter than the main shopping strip.
Tip: On Saturday some doors are open. Step into the ones that invite you, and stay out of the residential lanes.

Before you go
- Route times are estimates: walking, driving and a sensible pause at each stop. Add queues, traffic and swims yourself.
- Prices, timetables and trail status change. Check the venue's official site and the state transport app before you go.
- On beaches, swim only between the red and yellow flags. Use sun protection even when it is cloudy.
