Stops in order

The text version of the route: stops, time at each and the legs between them. Times are estimates, without queues, traffic or swims.

  1. 1. Woody Point~15 min at the stop

The south end of the parade. From here you walk north along the bay, past the beaches, to the jetty.

Tip: Train to Kippa-Ring, then a bus to the water. The walk from the station is the long way: about 4 km of streets to the jetty.

  2. 2. Suttons Beach~40 min at the stop

A sheltered bay with a gentle entry. This is the swim on the route: the water is calmer than ocean surf.

Tip: Go in when the flags are up. The cafes are on the parade.

  3. 3. Settlement Cove~20 min at the stop

The lagoon and park on the parade, between the beach and the jetty. A useful stop if the children have had enough sea.

Tip: The lagoon is free and open year-round; 1 November to 28 February it's open 6am to 8pm. Lifeguard cover is thinner in winter, so check the Moreton Bay council site. The jetty is ten more minutes along the foreshore.

  4. 4. Redcliffe Jetty~25 min at the stop

The jetty is free. The bay and the islands are the view. The bus back to Kippa-Ring station leaves from the parade.

Worth knowing: Today's jetty is the third: the first went up in 1885, the second in 1922. In 1938 the second gained the Penny Arcade, a haunt of the young Gibb brothers, the future Bee Gees. The current jetty opened in 1999.

Tip: People fish from the jetty. The swim stays at Suttons Beach, by the flags.

Before you go

  • Route times are estimates: walking, driving and a sensible pause at each stop. Add queues, traffic and swims yourself.
  • Prices, timetables and trail status change. Check the venue's official site and the state transport app before you go.
  • On beaches, swim only between the red and yellow flags. Use sun protection even when it is cloudy.
