Getting there

Go by car, and arrive while it is still light.

Stops in order

The text version of the route: stops, time at each and the legs between them. Times are estimates, without queues, traffic or swims.

  1. 1. Mount Gravatt Outlook~30 min at the stop

A platform over the southern suburbs. A short path from the car park is the whole walk, and the view does not need a national park.

Worth knowing: The lookout sits in the 91-hectare Mount Gravatt Outlook Reserve; with neighbouring Toohey Forest that is about 350 hectares of bush right among the suburbs.

Tip: Arrive in daylight. After sunset the reserve empties, and the steps are easier while you can still see them.

  2. 2. Toohey Forest~1 h at the stop

The city forest beside Griffith University. This is the shade, the picnic and a choice of short loops.

Tip: After rain the tracks are muddy. Follow the signs. Leave the lookout for the car: the link between the two stops is the road.

Before you go

  • Route times are estimates: walking, driving and a sensible pause at each stop. Add queues, traffic and swims yourself.
  • Prices, timetables and trail status change. Check the venue's official site and the state transport app before you go.
  • On beaches, swim only between the red and yellow flags. Use sun protection even when it is cloudy.
